The Milton Maze Pumpkin Patch opens on 14 dates from 3 October. Entry is pre-booked only, and the price rises as each batch of tickets sells out.
South Cambridgeshire’s pick-your-own pumpkin season is short, it is booked in advance, and the entry price is designed to go up the longer you leave it.
Updated 3 October: the farm still lists the same 14 dates and 2025 prices. Wimpole’s half-term story readings are now listed as booking essential, and every other Halloween event in the district is on our new Halloween page.
Milton Maze Pumpkin Patch: the 14 dates it opens
The patch at Rectory Farm, A10 Milton Bypass, Milton, CB24 6AE opens on:
- Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 October
- Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 October
- Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October
- Every day from Saturday 24 to Saturday 31 October
That is 14 open days, weekends only until half term. (The Milton Maze Pumpkin Patch)
Opening is 10am to 4pm, with last entry at 3.30pm. You book an arrival slot and can then stay until 4pm.
Book early, because the price climbs
Entry is by pre-booked online ticket only. The farm’s booking portal carries this warning: “Early Bird Pumpkin Patch tickets are now on sale, the price will increase as each batch of tickets has sold out.” (Rectory Farm ticket portal)
The farm says entry and pumpkin prices are held at 2025 rates. South Cambridgeshire District Council’s own listing gives entry at £9.95 for adults and children alike, free for under-3s, with early bird tickets available. (Visit South Cambs) Because of the batch pricing, check the live figure at booking before you count on it.
Pumpkins are not included. They are charged as you leave, at the farm shop: 75p for small gourds and tiny pumpkins, £1 to £10 for the orange ones, and up to £20 for a few giant display pumpkins. Cash or card. Farmer Rob has planted over 45,000 seeds, which the farm expects to yield more than 60,000 pumpkins, in white, warty, stripey and pink as well as orange.
One useful loophole from the farm’s own FAQ: you do not have to pay entry to buy a pumpkin. You can park, choose from the display in the courtyard by the farm shop, and leave, without visiting the patch or the Field of Fun.
What the entry ticket covers
Included at no extra charge: the Field of Fun (wooden maze, zip wire, inflatables, gold mine, duck racing, go karts, tyre mountain, crazy golf, farm skittles), photo displays around the site, and two daily Halloween Spectacular shows at roughly 12.15pm and 2.15pm. Street food this year comes from Loaded Dog Company, a burger and fries van, Honest Crumble and Los Churros, with hot and cold drinks at a couple of them. Picnics are welcome and there are benches in the Field of Fun.
Practical points worth knowing:
- No dogs, other than fully trained and identifiable assistance dogs.
- Parking for over 300 cars, and wheelbarrows are provided, one per group.
- The patch itself is not suitable for wheelchairs, and wheels can sink into the grass in the Field of Fun after rain. There is a disabled toilet with a baby changing table.
- It does not close for ordinary rain. Boots, a coat and gloves, because the stalks are prickly.
- It is not a scare event. Halloween-themed displays only.
- Smoke free site.
(The Milton Maze Pumpkin Patch, FAQs)
Do not use the prices page on that website. It is a leftover from the maize maze and is headed “The 2020 Milton Maize Maze has been cancelled”, with a July to September season and 2020 season ticket rates. The maize maze itself was formally wound up after 18 years and replaced by the pumpkin patch. (Milton Maize Maze announcement)
Halloween at Wimpole, free with admission
Halloween in the House runs at Wimpole Estate, Arrington, SG8 0BW, from 1 October, open every day noon to 3.30pm. Wimpole Hall is dressed for the season: a spider stairwell draped in cobwebs, a frightful feast laid out in the dining room, a pumpkin patch in the Yellow Drawing Room, and floating candles and handmade bats in the basement. The event itself is free, though normal admission to the estate applies, so National Trust membership covers it.
Over half term, spooky story readings for ages 4 to 8 run in the hall on 27 and 29 October, 11.30am to noon. The National Trust lists the readings as booking essential. (Visit South Cambs, National Trust)
Two more autumn dates in the villages
- Scarecrow Making Competition and Pumpkin Painting, Saturday 17 October, 1pm to 5pm, at The Hub, High Street, Great Cambourne. £5 per activity, or add pumpkin painting to a scarecrow entry for £3.50. The scarecrow competition has a £50 prize fund, split £25, £15 and £10. Materials provided, tea and cake on sale. (Cambourne Town Council)
- Autumn Steam Up, Sunday 25 October, 10am to 4pm, at Denny Abbey and the Farmland Museum, Ely Road, Waterbeach, CB25 9PQ. Live model steam engines run inside the historic threshing barn, with the museum’s stationary engine collection alongside. Normal admission applies, last entry 3.30pm. (Visit South Cambs)
Getting there
Rectory Farm sits directly on the A10 Milton bypass, which is one of the district’s busiest roads and carries the traffic to and from the Waterbeach development. Check our roadworks and travel page before a half-term trip. More free and low-cost days out are on our things to do in South Cambridgeshire page, and there is more autumn and winter listing detail on our fireworks and bonfire night page.
